Distinguishing a Foreground From Background of Same Color

For my 7th Grade Science Fair, I developed a science fair project that could help improve current car autopilot systems. I came up with this project after a Tesla car crashed due to the inability to distinguish the white sky from a white truck. For more information about the crash itself, visit the following link:

So I wanted to create a car that could successfully distinguish between a foreground and background of same color. I created the car using Python coding and the car would drive along a path. When the car saw an obstacle (that was the same color as the background), it stopped. With this science fair project, I won 1st place at the Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair, and an opportunity to compete at the State Science Fair and the Broadcom Masters program.
